Crunchy, soft, sweet and spicy all at once: I understand why chef Tharveshkan is proud of that dish.

This kind of dish is why I don’t become fully vegetarian: the meat fell off the bone, was meltingly tender and aromatic, perfectly accompanied by with the rich golden sauce.

C. had the vegetable biryani with a side of my favourite lentil dish, dal tadka.

The dal worked almost as a sauce with the rice and vegetables, making a filling and very tasty dish.

The carrot is one of my hero vegetables: it’s tasty, it’s good for you, it has an amazing colour and can be used in all kinds of dishes.

Since its opening in 2016, the Navadhanya restaurant in Haymarket Terrace has gained a loyal following of diners looking for authentic Indian cuisine served in new and exciting ways.

Maysor Dosa – rice crepe, potatoes, dal and coconut chutney – £7.50 Lasooni Murgh Tikka – Supreme of Chicken, ginger, garlic, cream, soft cheese – £7.50 Main Course at Navadhanya For mains, I went for the Chemmeen Jumbo Prawn dish that had sweet juicy crustaceans smothered in a rich onion, chilli and ginger sauce.

Chemmeen Jumbo Prawn £16.95 Donnie had their signature Railway Lamb Curry dish that harks back to India’s colonial past – mildly spiced mutton traditionally served to Brits on long train journeys.

Desserts and Indian cuisine aren’t always a great combination, but we decided to try their taster platter.

Navadhanya Dessert Platter – £9.99 We loved our visit to Navadhanya and there are lots of intriguing dishes on the menu that we are looking forward to trying on our next visit.

Expect fresh and innovative cooking from this understated Haymarket Indian restaurant.

You don’t often find pan-fried scallops on an Indian restaurant menu and it’s equally rare to enjoy them as gently seared as they are at Navadhanya.

Lightly crusted with fennel and spices, these lovely little delicacies are topped with a mound of mango and sit on a tomato coulis, quickly establishing that this is indeed the food of kings.

That’s not to overlook a hefty portion of feathery slow-cooked lamb shank, which comes in a gorgeously gooey coconut milk-infused tomato sauce.

Navadhanya successfully takes Indian dining up a notch.

With a varied menu, including a highly recommended railway lamb curry, and distinctly artistic decor, Navadhanya brings a touch of class to Edinburgh’s Indian offering.

A delectable combination of authentic indian dishes and locally sourced ingredients creates an irresistible menu with plenty to suit all palates.

The menu takes inspiration from Punjabi, Gujrati and South Indian cooking with the signature dish Dam Aloo Kashmeri – Potato barrels filled with mixed vegetables, paneer and nuts – and Shahi Sabzi among the highlights.

There are few bad options to choose from the hugely varied menu, but our pick of the bunch was the fantastic South Indian style Kodambakkam Curry.

Serving up a fine range of Indian and Punjabi cuisine, the restaurant was named the best in Edinburgh two years running in 2014 and 2015 by the Scottish Curry Awards.
